Failing to predict the road they cannot see may be blocked. As in just past a crest on the other side of the underpass we can see. So they go from a common flow of traffic to sudden obstruction with literally nowhere to go. Now, normal signage would have instructed them to slow down in anticipation before reaching this point, but this politician is here to tell you that's not a reasonable response.

@themindeclectic9821 I did. I also took the step to consider that the camera's viewpoint is not the viewpoint of a driver on that road. Those were in nearly uniform cars moving along a straight line. They were not off to the side watching how many cars had already stopped several cars ahead of them; that view was blocked by the car in front. There was very little time to react, and on top of that, far worse braking systems than modern cars. We still get pileups because of this basic line of sight problem along with failure to consider how margins translate; it doesn't matter how short your braking distance is if your reaction time already consumed all the margin.

@wheedler At that point they braked. Before that point, what they saw was the car ahead of them moving just as fast.
