  1. It probably doesn't take "int" or "bool", but "some type such that there is a known show function for it". This is known as a type class. For C++/Java people, it's a bit like an interface and a template function. So a type such as "Show a" guarantees there exists a "show :: a -> String", and thus log can call it to get something to work with. (This example uses Haskell syntax, but I expect it's similar in F#. I imagine this "log" is like Haskell "traceShowId".)

  2. I suspect he said "27th letter" by habit. Ö is the 29th letter in the Swedish alphabet, and we're not counting accents like É.
