@deftknight7418 On some level, I agree; the original idea of the patent served a societal purpose, motivating inventors to share their inventions. But the modern approach of "be a megacorporation and hold all rights for many generations" isn't that, at all. The most trifling of features, like identifying similar marks in a compression algorithm, are suddenly forbidden to use, in the name of protecting the profits of companies that don't bother to build any of it.
