  1. Lexmark at least advertise standard protocols and that they can keep printing with empty cartridges.

  2. The specific reason they haven't is that the printer's main purpose is to motivate you to buy supplies from them. If it self destructs, you might consider replacing it with a less hostile brand.

  3. Imagine if an ink cartridge came with the original style antivirus - to just overwrite and disable the built in malware.
