The primary purpose of the "skip" button on ads is to hold your attention on the ad. When they say you get "fewer" ads if you skip them every time, it's not because they want to help you. It's because you're marked as a high attention viewer, so advertisers who don't want to pay extra for that aren't getting through. There's a smaller pool of ads competing, but almost certainly not fewer sent. Most of the time, their numbers are pure fabulation with the only purpose of impressing management and investors. The people paid to lie to prospective customers employ the exact same tactics when negotiating for payments.

«advertisement /ăd′vər-tīz″mənt, ăd-vûr′tĭs-, -tĭz-/ noun 1. The act of advertising. 2. A notice, such as a poster or a paid announcement in the print, broadcast, or electronic media, designed to attract public attention or patronage. 3. The act of informing or notifying; notification. » Yep, that's literally "it's not an ad, it's an ad!"

@MatthewCenance How else would you explain the reaction speed test "feature"? If it was merely to enforce a minimum time there'd be no cause to delay the option to select it. It's there to keep you staring.
