It's much easier to have Chrome itself recognize and skip that piece of code. It would just be an undocumented optimization, the specialty of e.g. nvidia's driver division. The fun part: That's exactly what ad blockers are. Code to remove hostile data and get at the content more efficiently. The only distinction is the degree of hostility; Youtube have decided to upgrade the baseline for ads from distraction to obstacle.

@speedytruck As long as Firefox keeps automatically installing binaries designed specifically to be out of my control (e.g. when you visit Dropbox), I wouldn't be so keen on unspecified and uninspected updates from their end particularly in a privacy context.

@rkvkydqf Proof of that guilt doesn't seem to have hurt anyone significantly so far. Speaking of Microsoft, remember how Windows 95 would transfer files more slowly from Windows 95 than Windows NT based on just the identifier, as demonstrated by Samba? That's a more likely analog for people who get different results based on User-Agent strings.
