@AccuphaseMan This certainly makes it clear you don't know Greta at all. Why'd you come out of your echo chamber to preach here anyway? You're not going to be convincing when you don't know the first thing of your subject matter.

@ribzer57 There's value in showing the public alternatives that don't actively fight against the owner. That old adage about voting with your feet or wallet requires there to be a market of such options. A recommendation of something you've actually tried (warts and all, this setup wasn't straightforward) is a helpful starting point.

Maybe the solution to poor profit margins isn't spending more money on making the product worse.

@jackmclane1826 The product is worse; it has added failure modes. I understand the anti customer perspective exists, where this failure mode is intended to extort the customer, but a product broken by sabotage is still a broken product. Defective by design.

This certainly marks the difference between plain poor design and designed to actively fight against usability. The latter is what all DRM is; you get to pay for your stuff to not work.

@ribzer57 He didn't buy this printer; it was sent to him by the manufacturer, which is why he tagged it as a sponsored video.

@ribzer57 Sorry, I was missing some context. Yeah, they might be able to use that. As you say, it could save the expense of getting another piece of equipment. It might be worth replacing it simply to be rid of the brand; that's a personal value judgment and possible message. It could also be of interest to have just one brand of printer driver (wouldn't it be lovely if one was actually nice?). There's also value in keeping things from becoming waste. Plenty of reasons on either side, many of which are subjective.
