  2. A rain gauge performs mechanical integration, just as an electronic capacitor does with charge (which is why they're also named integrators). Laboratory flasks perform amplification by having narrowing throats. A conical champagne glass does the same the other way around (half the height remaining is one eighth the volume, going from linear to 3D analogous to the square-cube law). Plenty of examples if you don't actively dismiss them.

  6. The patent is expired, which is the optimal state in patent law; anyone may use it without fear. This is what patents are meant for. However, management is typically idiots and will refuse to make a new product line without a new patent, fearing competition from cheaper copies. Thus noone makes a good toaster because everyone knows how.

  7. Agreed. There are thousands of now irreparable stereoscopic videos on YouTube because they decided to abandon the separate tags and demand reuploads, for no reason. And removed the user controls to fix it too.

  8. The wood-gas stove is an example of when you really do want to preheat air. It heats it up enough to be able to burn secondary byproducts such as soot and carbon monoxide, eventually removing the smoke entirely (though not, of course, the carbon emissions) and burning all of the fuel. However, that reaction is probably far less relevant to the lighting task, as those flames can turn blue or even invisible. You can see it start working as flames start appearing at the secondary (hot) air holes rather than the primary fuel. Unfortunately it seems few people have a clue how to actually use that mode.

  10. Like any other feature, it's somewhere, maybe. The list of things moved recently includes comments, descriptions, playlists, titles, chats, controls, and recommendations. Things outright removed includes annotations, metadata tags, and playback corrections. There's inevitably more.

  11. I submit that at 5:02, what we learn about the red stickers isn't that their hue isn't pure, but that their albedo (specifically in red, but also in general) is lower than white. In a hue/saturation/value colour space, that means its value is lower, but the saturation may still be full.
