  1. Retail doesn't have to be 'dead end'. Shift manager, department manager, store manager, regional manager. There's a career ladder just like anything else. Or if you work for a reasonably large chain there are probably 'side quests' like the marketing team, the customer research team, the ordering and inventory team, etc. This isn't a pep talk, just pointing out some possibilities. If you think of the job as dead end, it will be dead end.
