Why would a contractor get some sort of state benefit for his family if killed? It works thee same way in the US...stay in the military proper and get all kinds of extras or become a contractor and get more money up front but few to no benefits.

@richardcadena7746 Dude, the international legion is still accepting volunteers...
31
@brayansalazar1834 They crowd schools and roads. They transform neighborhoods in ways which the locals don't want. They literally have breached our national sovereignty. If you don't have a border, if you can't say who gets to live in your polity, why bother having one.
18
Imagine doing one on US three letter agencies and their shell companies.
13
@poolmonkey Oh noes...workers will earn more. Economic damage!
10
@Illiteratechimp Yes. Just like our military lives in when deployed. And of course there is an easy way to avoid the 'camps'...self-repatriate.
10
Every attack has to mass forces. This is why Ukraine is having problems with its counterattack.

Whenever I see real surrenders, the soldiers are still in 'battle rattle'.
6
They are literally testing them out real time with a live feed.
5
@mrvwbug4423 LOL. The farms that produce most of our calories are highly automated...have you ever seen how wheat, soybeans or potatoes are sow and harvested? People paying stoop labor to grow lettuce might be hurt...but guess what...lettuce grows in Mexico, Guatemala, Chile, etc.
5
@1435-u2o But all the Western Generals and Majors told me that Crimea would be 'liberated' by the end of Summer...*this* summer.
5
TBF Ukrainian fortifications outside of Donetsk and Lugansk are the reason the Russians haven't made much progress there.
4
@slovokia What this doesn't address is the cost of low education, low wage, relatively large family immigrants being here. They don't even come close to paying their way just to 'educate' their children, let alone all the extra stress on infrastructure, public services etc.
4
There is zero evidence the Russians thought it would be over in three days.
3
@kenftw6585 If they pay a decent wage suddenly they aren't 'super low tier'. For example in England and France being a gardener is considered a good profession and it pays well. In Germany cooks and servers are professionals who earn decent money.
3
It does have a certain very Russian elegance to it.
3
@brianloch4365 Uh, the West and Turkey started the 'Civil War' in Syria.
2
Since May 2, Zeluzhnyi has been seen for a grand total of 10 secs, sitting, speaking two sentences, waving one arm.
2
@elchicano187 I'd rather have Russian than Mexico.
2
Where will the fighters launch from? How will they avoid destruction by demonstrably superior Russian anti-aircraft systems? This isn't rump Yugoslavia that NATO is taking on.
2
@cloverblossom8649 Zero about it is documented. WSJ took the word of the Ukrainian military. The entire Ukrainian government is basically a TV production company.
2
I love my yipping Pomeranian of a nation so much I left to live in Australia.
2
As usual, no mention of immigration...immigrants increase demand for housing. Tens of millions in a decade really increases demand for housing.
2
It didn't melt down...only part of it melted down...LOL>

It didn't melt down...only part of it melted down...LOL>

Not well enough.

@sirkl4272 The Russians could definitely improve their NCO career track. But the rest is just 'cope' as the kids say. Just as the Russian government (and it isn't just Putin) underestimated the Ukrainians, we are now underestimating the Russians.
1
So much cope here.
1
@jeromehugh9624 These aren't Russians, they are people from the various third world countries. And, btw, in Crimea Russians have always outnumbered Ukrainians 3-1 since the Russian Empire took over the peninsula from the Turks.
1
The Ukraine has had all that since before this phase of the conflict began.
1
It would get shot down. Great against guys in sandals with RPGs, not so much against modern air defense.
1
@kennethAmos8929 Some of the jobs won't be done here; already we get a good bit of produce from Mexico (sadly it seems that Australian ag businesses have made the investments there to a large extent...at least in Baja California). Some of the jobs will be automated. Production processes will improve, and people will adapt. Instead of grandiose, high maintenance landscapes, for example, developers and cities will install low maintenance ones.
1
LOL, against actual air defenses?
1
When is WSJ gonna go after these monopolists grabbing up all the real estate?
1
@tiamatsmirnov938 We I mainly agree...I just watched a video of the Korean-American dude in Ukraine taking a train to Odessa* and was astonished that Kiev's central train station hasn't been touched or even the trunk lines heading into the station.
1
@daledupont3772 Russia literally created Finland.
1
Lawfare. Lawfare initiated by a member of America's worst demographic category.
1
They are working on a nuclear powered anti satellite satellite. We have our own anti satellite weapons programs. This is such a transparent bit of agitprop
1
Game changer (tm)!
1
@knutbergan Exactly. Russia simply said...okay, we aren't going to do your job for you anymore, EU.
1
Russians are now fighting for their land. Virtually everything in Russian hands is overwhelmingly Russian speaking with majorities of people who identify as ethnic Russian. The Ukraine, to the extent that a literal 'Borderland' can be a country at all, is way too big for it's putative nation.
1
Canada needs some 'democracy'.
1
@SubCapt They didn't want to eradicate the Trader Joe culture. I saw an interview with 'Joe' where he said basically they just wanted to take over the operation as a turnkey, uh, operation.
1
@paralloyd7 You think migrants live under toadstools? No, they drive up housing prices with increased demand. They drive up taxes because, no, your under the table "landscaper" don't report his income and even if he did he wouldn't come close to paying the taxes to cover his four kids in school, their 'free' school lunches, etc.
1
Best ever he did in an election was 27% for Moscow mayor in 2013
1
Guys, the fact that the Wall Street Journal is propagandizing against enforcement of immigration law should tell you what the rich and corporate interests, who don't have workers well being at heart, are thinking.
1
No dude, go back a couple of months. Some of the loudest Military-Industrial Complex cheerleaders were suggesting that the Ukrainians would break thru to the Azov sea in weeks and take Crimea by the end of summer.
1
@MalakhiW For barely survival wages you mean.
1
Used by the US Navy....shows this doohicky in front of a Coast Guard ship.

@PrinceAmac Gamechanger!
