  2. Russia doesn't want control over all of the Ukraine. It wants a state that is not a member of a hostile, aggressive (Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq etc) 'dEFenSivE allIance' bordering its industrial heartland. One that also treats its Russian speaking, Russian identifying population with decency.

  3. I guess I don't see where NATO provides for the internal stability of a country. Greece, Turkey, most recently Spain in 2017 all have faced serious issues with internal stability and I don't think NATO did much one way or the other to help. The Spanish defense minister held a press conference where she suggested she had 'NATO's full support to enforce legality', by I sure didn't see any action or even statements on NATOs part. I could be wrong. As for prosperity, contrary to popular belief Russia is far more prosperous than the Ukraine, and the eastern parts of the Ukraine with more economic connection (until recently) are more prosperous than the West of the Ukraine (with the exception of the Kiev region). And not all countries have truly prospered with EU membership...for every Poland or Estonian there is a Bulgaria or a Latvia, rapidly losing population and experiencing brain drain.
