@mickapps3153 We had a free and fair (if you ignore most of our media being in the tank for Harris) election.

@The_ZeroLine Tell me you haven't taken Economics 101 without telling me you haven't taken Economics 101. Here, I'll give you a hint...look up 'opportunity costs'.

The analysis here is wrong. There is all kinds of evidence that the "Biden" administration wanted to use this war to provoke an end to at least the Putin government if not the Russian Federation itself. Remember 'the Rouble will be Rubble', remember the 'Anglo-Saxons' scuttling the early peace deal...our permanent policy establishment did that precisely because it thought Putin was vulnerable and that a prolonged war would bring about his downfall. And there is every indication that the allies thought that the Ukraine would be successful with its Summer '23 offensive...i.e. they had enough in terms of weapons etc. That offensive's success, cutting of Crimea, would have led to Putin's downfall according to this thinking. Finally there is little indication that there is anything short of nuclear weapons or massive NATO boots on the ground would defeat Russia. We know that because Russia's own missile strikes haven't defeated that polity. We don't have enough tomahawks etc to really inflict significant damage on Russia's war making potential.

@The_ZeroLine The defense budget is 800 M or so. 60/800 is 7.5%. And no we aren't spending millions to scrap stuff. In fact I see Humvees in use at the National Guard base near me every time I drive by.

@The_ZeroLine Dude, we don't get 'preferential market access' to EU countries, which includes most of the NATO countries. In fact they are quite good at keeping our stuff out other than that which they really need, like LNG.

In 1654, before even all the English colonies in NA was founded, the eastern part of what is now 'Ukraine' came under control of the Russian empire. In 1783, the same year we officially got our independence from Britain, the northern Black Sea littoral came under control of the Russian empire after they defeated the Ottomans. In 1793, so called 'Right Bank Ukraine' came under control of the Russian empire when it defeated the Poles who had been ruling it. This was just two years after our present constitution went into effect and eleven years (IIRC) before we bought the vast Louisiana territory. Finally, the last bit 'internationally recognized Ukraine' , Galicia, came under control of the Soviet Union and the end of WWII courtesy of the Red Army. This was before Hawaii and Alaska became US states. The point is that we US Americans thrived without an independent Ukraine. It is irrelevant to us. In fact this war wouldn't be happening if our foreign policy establishment didn't butt into its affairs.

@HeadsFullOfEyeballs I don't care if Russia's position is strengthened. In fact, the 'Unipolar moment' was terrible in the long run for the US. We invaded at least two countries.
