  2. Putin has had strong support in Russia, for good reason when we look at 'independent' (meaning run by oligarchs and western neoliberals) in the 1990s compared to today. It is not surprising he has even more support today when Russia is in a proxy war versus most of Europe and the 'Anglosphere' . Considering how Russia has weathered sanctions and made significant gains in Donbas and elsewhere recently, this increase in support for Putin is even less surprising.
