You should look into Russia's condition before Putin.

It's not comparable to Ukraine at all...where a large percentage of the population are ethnocally Russian. Where two oblasts have fought off Kyiv for eight years for there freedom and right to live there culture and speak there language.

@deguilhemcorinne418 There's a YouTube channel called popular politics that is in Russia that does nothing but criticize the war and Putin, in Russian language. There is Another guy who does so I'm English. The idea that thousands are being thrown in jail and kept there seems to be false....though street demonstrations are banned.

Eli from Russia did a series of void from the Russian far north. Many cities looked very prosperous and the local languages and cultures are being fostered. She did go to one, Vorkuta, which has fallen on hard times due to closures of mines there...but even it looked favorable to the US rust belt.

@Dan-yb1wy well I think they've improved because the country is no longer in the charge of a drunkard who let neoliberal Western advisors and oligarchs strip mine the country and it's assets. No doubt Putin and his clique skim off the top but at least they have also benefitted the country and people as a whole.

@TheHighlanderprime If a significant number of Australians, at times goodsized majorities, voted for candidates that wanted to maintain close ties to Britain, if English was being downgraded and eventually strangled out of existence against the will of native British-Australians, if there were gangs of paramilitaries terrorizing pro-British Australians (Right Sector, Kracken, Azov), if a couple of Australian states decided they'd had enough of other Australian states ignoring their votes and instead violently removing pro-British politicians and then Canberra started a war against those states, yeah, maybe. Or you can just look up the Falklands war.
