During the 1990s Russia lost five years of life expectancy -- really 10 years of male life expectancy while female LE was stagnant. That has completely reversed and been surpassed under Putin. Just one metric of many. You may not enjoy the illusion of the possibility of change the 'democratic' systems of the West present, but it's good not to be conned into an illusion. Because in the West, where figures like Boris Johnson or Donald Trump can be elected promising meaningful change (a true Brexit, a border 'Wall' respectively), nothing much ever happens. Brexit was sabotaged and nothing permanent was done about mass illegal immigration.
