@europeista Not only were 'influenced by' but we're created by. There was no Estonia or Latvia when the Russian empire took over the region from the Swedes. The cities were German speaking. Thw landowners mostly German. Latvians as a unified ethnic group didn't exist...there is a argument to be made they still don't.

The prime minister of Estonia is one of the most enthusiastic war mongers and anti Russians. Her father was a Soviet officer, the editor of the Estonian communist party newspaper and a delegate to the all union parkiament of the USSR. While she is not responsible for her fathers beliefs I have never read that she denounced him. It is interesting that 'elites' seem to propagate themselves into power positions despite complete changes in systems and even sovereignity.
