  2. I find it bizarre to think that historically the United States hasn't been a white country. Thru most of its history it was overwhelmingly white. In 1980 it was about 80% white. And white identity is a real thing. So much so that people make fun of white people and when white people try to leave whiteness (e.g. Rachel Dolezal) they are pushed back into it (which kinda shows which groups have privilege now). Our form of government is based on European models, the language we speak is a European language, and even the largest minority language here is a European language. Are there important contributions from non-whites, of course. But historically, statistically, culturally, politically, etc we are still, and definitely were, a white country. As for Spencer's German immigrant roots. Germans are basically Anglo-Saxons who didn't move west.
