  1. Never visited LA until 2015, and when I had a chance to go back in 2016, I took a pass. I have never been in such an awful, inconvenient, stressful city in my 54 years--and I used to live in a Latin-American metropolis.

  2. Well, it's at least as much Mexican as American, now. I lived in a Mexican metropolis 25 years ago that looked better run than L.A., though. Their homeless had their own colonias to build shelters in, pirate electricity from, and so forth. Rats weren't a problem all over, but cholera was. I think L.A. looks much the same, but perhaps more disorganized because the American part of it is still in denial.

  3. I should add that 2015 was the last time I visited L.A. Even then, I thought the car problem made L.A. its own category of insufferable.

  5. The nice thing about living in a northern tier state is that, for 6 months out of the year, Boom Boom will freeze his ass off if he tries to camp out under the bridge. Warm weather attracts some really useless people.

  6. I live just above the 45th parallel, and even panhandlers are rare. Texas is a comparative shithole next to states with really cold winters.

  7. Well, Orange County used to be one of the more solidly RePUBLICan counties in the US. If they weren't also complicit, we wouldn't have PUBLIC RATS.
