  9.  @oscarwalton1188  My point is: it's better trying to do something in hope of achieving something rather than doing nothing and claiming that doing something either changes nothing or makes thing even worse. That's a self fulfilling claim. Because right now it's certain that our current trend is not sustainable. Doing something may turnout bad because we did the wrong thing. It can however also turn out good when you did the proper thing. But doing nothing will definetly end bad. If these farmers have a conflict with the government's proposal then they have to bring up a better counter proposal. And that shouldn't be something along the line of "We have done enough","China and India have to change" or "Doing something would achieve nothing".

  10.  @oscarwalton1188  Well, this would be the case if we assume the market has no restrictions to foreign trade. Which it already kind of has due to the massive public funding EU-farmers receive making their products more competetive globally (even causing African farmers to lose their jobs). But I very much oppose the idea of no-trade-limits the same way I oppose the idea of hardcore protectionism. Combating climate change and famine is a goal we all have. If reducing green house emissions is something the Dutch government is aiming for then Dutch farmers are forced to give up on some of their lifestock. This also has the advantage of actually increasing the total calory production since meat and dairy production are insanely inefficient. Doing so would undoubtably inflate the prices for meat and dairy products but lower the prices for grain based products (or just grain itself). Of course this'd make Dutch animal products less competetive against products from much more pollutive countries like India and China. Which is why the government would have to counter the price gap via tarrifs so that locally produced meat is still available but not easily outcompeted by foreign alternatives with much worse footprints. That'd my way to go.

  11.  @oscarwalton1188  Well, the production itself is more expensive but foodprices are much lower due to massive financial kickbacks from the EU. It's to prevent continental food production from being outcompeted by foreign branches so that the EU can remain selfsufficient in terms of food. Which is a real blessing right now. And it's not about cutting food production in general but rather limiting the amount of lifestock. Which would actually increase the food production AND lower green house gas emissions.

  20.  @commenter4190  Dude, every European country has far right parties like the AFD. The AfD even had a rising period between 2015 and 2019. Nowadays though the party is in a deep crisis ranginging from inner disagreements and being watched by the constitutional court. Since the AfD is a lone runner it's currently very far away from achieving total majority (which btw no party ever gets since the 60s).
