American dollar is tied up to oil. Iran was an extremely poor monarchy ruled country, until America came in 1950s. In 1950s, America invested A LOT OF MONEY into oil production in Iran, and so Iranian government, companies, media, politicians and elites became American semi-puppets, Iran became by 95% economically dependent on America, so Iran's politics also became dependent - Iranian king was doing everything Americans tell him in both outer and inner politics, Iran was a pro-Western country, while selling oil to the West with huge discount, but considering extremely high corruption people were still living in poverty. Also people of Iran are by majority traditionalist Islamic, while their pro-Western corrupted puppet king and government were sunnit Islamic, not traiditionalist. And this pro-Western puppet king spent nearly 50% of state budget from oil sales to parties, palaces and luxury. So, poverty, corruption, combined with the fact that religious minority rules over religious majority resulted in Islamic revolution in 1979. Absolute majority of Iranian population supported this revolution, nearly 20% of whole country's population was on the streets, protesting, and American puppet lost power and flee from Iran.
America was not happy about revolution in Iran, because dollar is dependant on oil after 1973, after golden standard was abolished, and America invested a lot of money into Iran's oil production in 1950s, and in 1979 American puppet king lost a power as a result of revolution. So America started to blackmail Iran with sanctions, and in 1981 the war started - Iran have a neighbour country - Iraq, which had a simillar issue as Iran - majority of the population are traditionalist Islamic, while Saddam Hussein and his nationalist party were progressive Islamic, minority ruled over majority, and Saddam Hussein was afraid that his people, people of Iraq, will see the success of revolution in Iran and the same revolition against his regime will happen in Iraq. So in 1981 Iraq invaded Iran, and because it was profitable for America to change government in Iran even by war, America started to give weapons to Iraq. (Yes, America armed its future enemy in the Middle East in the war against Iran), but Saddam Hussein failed, and war prolonged for 10 years with no victory, Iran defended itself and war ended on pre-war border with 2 million soldiers dead.
America, Israel, Saudi Arabia and everyone else spent nearly 300 billion dollars to military aid to Iraq, and because Iraq failed, they demanded this money back from Iraq. And Iraq felt at this moment like betrayed by everyone, so Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1991 to simply default half of its debt (half of Iraq's debt was registered in Kuwait), and rise oil prices to pay off other 150 billion dollars. But for America it was a red flag - America thought that Iraq will be America's proxy force against Iran, but their proxy went out of control, so America intervened and bombed hell out of Iraq in 1991, but Americans realized one mistake - in 1980s, when America was giving weapons to Iraq in its war against Iran, Americans and Europeans gave chemical weapons to Iraq, and Europeans built few nuclear enrichment facilities in Iraq. For example in 1981, France built a military-purpose nuclear facility in Iraq, so in case Iraq can use it in war against Iran, and in 1981 Israel with American help bombed and destroyed this French nuclear facility, there was a conflict between France and Israel in 1981 over Israeli bombing of French infrastructure. Americans made a deal with Iraq instead of invading them, because Americans still needed Iraq's military to oppose Iran in case of possible war, the deal terms were that all nuclear and chemical facilities in Iraq that were built by the West in the 1980s, will have American CCTV cameras installed. In 1997 Americans lost connection with these CCTV cameras, and the talk began about invading Iraq since 1998 in America. Since 1998 America started to prepare for a war, and 9/11 attack gave Americans an opportunity to conduct this operation, invade and occupie Iraq, establishing puppet government and securing the threat from their former proxy. This was ironic - Iraq was America's best ally in 1980s, during the Iraq's war of agression against Iran, America gave weapons to Iraq, American minister of foreign affairs was smiling and shaking hands with Saddam Hussein in 1985, but at the end American proxy turned against them and backfired, forcing them to fight a war with their former proxy. And this backfired even more, because in 1981-1991 America and everyone else gave weapons worth of 300 billion dollars to Iraq, and after the war ended in 2003, Iraqi Islamic population was unhappy with foreign invasion of their homeland, so population radicalized and ISIS appeared from former soldiers of Iraqi's army, and ISIS was armed with American and Western weapons that America gave to Iraq in 1980s.
Later Americans left this country, filled with insurgency and resistance, while Iran watched all of this. And Iran made a conclusion - America is waging economic blackmail and terrorism against their country after American puppet lost the power due to revolition in 1979, their country was invaded by American proxy military force of Iraq in 1980s, Iran won this war, and later this backfired to Americans themselves and Americans invaded Iraq and established the puppet government in Iraq, but they can do it with Iran too. So, Iran needs the best security guarantee - nuclear weapons. And this is how Iranian nuclear programm began. And America is simply using Israel as "bad policemen" in the Middle East to counter-balance Iran to not give Iran an opportunity to make a nuclear weapons. And while Israel plays "bad policemen", America plays "good policemen", America buys oil from same countries that Israel is brutally opressing. This is how American imperialist politics work, and basically how politics work in general - to control and dominate other you need both enforcement and giving them whealth, two measures - carrot and stick.
