5:56 - The Russian economy is so dysfunctional that Russia ranks 8th in the world in terms of nominal GDP, now at $2.1 trillion, higher than the 184 countries in the world that are behind Russia on this list. In terms of GDP at PPP, Russia ranks 5th in the world after China (1), USA (2), India (3), Japan (4), and Russia is on a par with Germany, with a GDP at PPP of ~4 trillion dollars. The Russian economy is so dysfunctional that Russia's per capita GDP is $15,000, higher than Turkey or Brazil. And also in Russia, the average world standard of living and wages is somewhere in the 50th place out of 193.
With regards to the war in Ukraine, Russia does not lose the war. Russia has captured a significant piece of Ukrainian territory and still holds it. At the same time, one should not forget that the West is helping Ukraine with the help of weapons and money. The West has given Ukraine financial and military assistance worth 200 billion euros. Without this help, Russia would have captured much more territory. Also, do not forget that Russia in the first few months of the war fought against Ukraine not at full strength, using only volunteers from the contract army, without mobilization, and the Russian offensive at the beginning of the war was stopped due to the fact that the Ukrainian army eventually accumulated numerical superiority, because Russia did not fight at full strength, without mobilization, using only volunteers. Small contingent of Russian troops achieved "small" progress, capturing ~14% of Ukrainian territory (~85 000 sq.km. of territory, Ukraine is biggest European country)
With regards to demographic problems, Russia does not have systemic demographic problems - mortality in Russia has seriously increased in 2019-21 due to the Covid-19 epidemic. However, such a problem was not only in Russia, but in general in all countries of the world, and the highest mortality rate in the United States. With regards to the birth rate in Russia, the low birth rate is now observed in all white countries, as well as in Japan. This is due to the rising standard of living. The Russian economy has made tremendous progress since the impoverished nineties. People multiply rapidly only in the poor countries of Africa, South America or Asia. In Russia, with rising living standards, the birth rate has declined, just like in Europe and the West.
But what country has problems with the economy and demography is Ukraine. The population of Ukraine in 1991 was 48 million, almost 50 million. As of January 1, 2022, the population of Ukraine is 41 million people, despite the fact that these statistics include 2.5 million residents of Crimea, which is part of Russia for last 9 years, as well as ~2.5 million residents from the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, who raised armed uprising and left Ukraine 9 years ago. That is, in fact, even before the war, on January 1, 2022, the population of Ukraine was ~ 36 million people. 48 million in 1991, 36 million in 2021. Ukraine is the most corrupt country in Europe. Corruption in Ukraine is just everywhere. Ukraine in 2021 was one of the poorest countries in Europe. Only impoverished Moldova was poorer than Ukraine. GDP per capita in 2021 in Ukraine was about 4 thousand dollars. For comparison, in Russia it was then about 10 thousand dollars. And now, in 2023, things are even worse. Even before the war, Ukraine had a ruined economy that was worse than the Russian one, and the most dying population in the world, which has declined by ~17% in 30 years since 1991. In Russia, even taking into account the 3.5 million labor migrants from Central Asia and their possible relatives with whom they could come to Russia, the population has decreased by 4.5% over the past 30 years, and this is probably people who left Russia, they are migrants in all past 30 years.
