I will tell you more - they WEREN'T poor even during socialism, just compare USSR and countries of Eastern Europe under socialism with South America and Asia in the 60s-80s, Eastern Europe was even richer related to the World under socialism than at now. RELATIVELY. Of course 30 years ago there were a different technologies and at now in 2024 we live better than in 1980s. Eastern Europe always was an average or higher than average compared to other World. Even Russia is on exactly Global average level.
