Russia didn't played any role in this conflict - Putin wanted to intervene, but he wasn't president at that time, while president Medvedev didn't suppourted the idea of participation in this conflict. This lead to great purge in the Russian military command, when Putin came to power in 2012 - many pro-Medvedev officials and generals were killed. Putin simply destroyed all command system in period of 2011-13
