According to the text of the Budapest agreements, Russia has the right to cancel the agreement if it considers Ukraine a threat. In 2014, an illegal coup took place in Ukraine, as a result of which the pro-Russian president was overthrown. There can be no question of any implementation of the Budapest agreements. The Russian-speaking regions of the South and East of Ukraine, which are populated by Russians and which vote for pro-Russian presidents, were unhappy with the coup and protested. The protests in April 2014 escalated into the seizure of administrative buildings in Slovyansk and ultimately the war - the Russian people in the East of Ukraine raised an armed uprising against the authorities in Kyiv. Now, Russia is conducting a peacekeeping operation

@dj7577 NATO expanded to the East since the collapse of USSR. In the 90s Russia was a democratic and free state, that didn't invaded any of its neighbours. Why NATO was expanding? In the 90s and up to 2008 Russia didn't invaded any of its neighbours

@HeilAmarth I think I already wrote that Russia and Boris Yeltsin played a key role in the collapse of the USSR. It was Boris Yeltsin, the head of Soviet Russia, who in 1989 tore off the badge of the CPSU at a meeting of the CPSU in parliament. It was Yeltsin who, in 1990, achieved Russia's autonomy from the USSR. It was Yeltsin who defeated the communists in 1991 during their coup attempt. Russia in the 90s was a democratic and free state. Now the question is - why did NATO expand to the East in the 90s?

If you think that Russia should not react in any way to NATO expansion and threats to its security, then try saying that to John Kennedy. When the USSR deployed nuclear missiles in Cuba, America howled to the whole world. The United States was gathering troops to Cuba, and American officials from the Foreign Ministry were hysterical and threatened Cuba with war. Since then, Cuba has been under absolutely unjustified sanctions. If the American leadership considered Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba a threat and was ready to respond militarily, then why is Russia also not entitled to respond militarily when 18 years of negotiations with NATO ended in failure?
