@Mozzie7920 Afganistan received modern weapons from USA, China and other countries. They had modern American anti-air and anti-tank systems, Pakistan was training their soldiers. USSR wasn't fighting against "farmers", USSR in Afganistan fought against well equipped and trained by different countries army. And Soviet army wasn't defeated on the battlefield - it was a partisan war without frontlines, Soviets controlled all major cities and roads up to the end of war. The war ended because of economic and political crisis inside USSR, because population was tired of war, because government was tired of war, but Soviet army wasn't defeated in the battlefield

@Mozzie7920 there was a civil war in Afganistan in the 90s. Part of this well trained army died in this civil war or simply by their own death because of age - sine 1980s to 2021 a 40 years passed. But yes, NATO forces also fought against the army, that China, Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia and USA rised against USSR. And just like Soviet army, NATO forces weren't defeated on the battlefield. NATO troops controlled all cities and roads for 20 years, and they withdrew only because population and government were tired of this war. But their casualities were very low, only a few thousand KIA, just like USSR. They weren't defeated on the field.

@wsm7929 Iraq had poorly trained and badly equipped army with no economic and industrial background to supply this force. Not far away from goat farmers
