  1. A 'heroic' mission, an in-the-nick-of-time saving a site from an upcoming plowing (a site that has been plowed for centuries)! Fantastic series, the only downside being the trying-to-spin-drama-out-of-very-little obsession. History and Archeology are fascinating subjects that do no really need any more hyperbole.

  2. By modern standards, Bomber Harris was no doubt one of the biggest war criminals in Britain. To judge those people by modern standards is, however, quite ridiculous. They had a war to fight, and current standards of morality simply did not apply. Sad, but true. Having people like this come to at least to some degree of grief after the war would no doubt have some effect in reigning in current and future wartime cruelty, but be assured that it would only hamper the current "good guys" while having absolutely no effect on the current "bad guys" - e.g Muslim extremists.

  3. The sad part is the fact that the men of Bomber Command killed incredible numbers of civilians. The bomber crews were not to blame, they were "just following orders", but at least that is an excuse they never try to hide behind. The "hindsight" perspective is definitely not fair, people today have no way of truly understanding what it must have been like to have to "kill or be killed". Still, indiscriminate bombing of purely civilian targets like London, Dresden and Hamburg should NEVER be repeated.
