I wonder if, when this is all in the past, if anyone will be held responsible for the death of thousands due to criminal incompetence. For example, this idiot Alex Azar is touting the US having "the most advanced public health and surveillance system in the world" when the plain facts are that they were completely unprepared and were unable to properly test for the virus on a large scale during the crucial initial stages. The very early US COVID-19 related death is an indication that the virus has probably been spreading since the planeload of cruise passengers arrived in the US. I predict that there will be an explosion in COVID-19 cases once they are able to start proper testing for the virus.

"The young man" (the 6-year old child!) was taken into custody (presumably handcuffed as pr. procedure?) and escorted out of the building. Any non-´Murican citizen and law officer will be cringing at that statement. An angry 6-year old cannot be expected to act reasonably, most 6-year are in the process of learning that. The real crime is the fact that a 6-year old had such ready access to a loaded handgun that he was able to bring with him to settle any perceived grievances. The parents are no doubt in for a world of hurt... Any society that allows this is in a bad shape. Any society that has accepted this state of affairs for years and is even helping to facilitate even worse outcomes is totally off the rails!

Do ordinary Brits even contemplate what it must be like to be "a Royal" and live in a glass bowl like they do? Any man at a similar age as the new king is almost certain to have prostate problems (I do at 74, and so does my father at 96), but the princess's problems are bound to be more personal. Would these "talking heads" like THEIR personal medical issues speculated on like this?

@dianac2498 , while the US was (is!) unable to do large-scale testing, the South Koreans have been doing tests by the tens of thousands. This argument is about as valid as the US having "the most advanced public health and surveillance system in the world". 3 days ago the US had done 445 tests, Japan 1890 tests and South Korea 66,652 tests, so this argument flies like lead balloon...

Boy, this is a lesson in how a piece of news can be overdramatized . The gases involved are NOT lethal except in high concentrations in calm weather VERY close to the eruption. Any gases drifting towards populated areas (unlikely given the current weather forecast) will be so diluted that they will only be a mild nuisance (a bad smell) to most people, only adversely affecting very few sensitive individuals.

What a wonderfully expressive young person! Given that she was born in modern-day 'Murica that is now turning out to be MAGA-'Murica (a.k.a. Trump's MEDIEVAL 'Murica) she is fortunate to have been born to open-minded and understanding parents. This video is now going on 7 years old. I fervently hope her dreams at the time came true and that she survives until the current 'Murican madness passes away into the dustbin of national nightmares.

In my opinion, rabid Conservatives are people with damaged souls, and rabid Trumpian Conservative Repugnicans have no soul at all. That is simply my opinion, everyone else obviously having the freedom of having their own opinion. What I find incredulous is the simple fact that there are so FEW rabid right-wingers that still have a shred of conscience left in them. At the moment, there are only 2, count TWO, honest conservatives that actually care about the future of the Republic of the United States of America as a democracy, even if flawed or endangered. The apparent mindset of most of the violent Trump-followers like the "Proud Boys" and similar is reminiscent of the individuals the eagerly wanted to become members of Hitler's Brown Shirts and, later, Hitler's "well-regulated militia" Gestapo .

This judge is brilliant - he uses moderate humiliation to teach first-time offenders a lesson, apparently nipping a potential career in crime in the bud. If he only sees 1 out of 10 offenders again in his court (mentioned in the comments) this method is a raging success.

The elderly and immunity-deficient are a huge drain on the health insurance industry - having them die off in droves is a windfall for the health care system profiteering parasites. My advice to the US general population is to watch news about how other countries are responding to the epidemic/pandemic: Ignore US media (CNN, MSNBC etc.), follow "foreign" news on the internet, such as BBC. At least the Brits do not make it their business to lie to the US public...

@liltunechi4 , Chinese authorities at first tried to downplay and cover up the potential epidemic, so they bear some blame. The cruise passengers should NOT have been mixed with other traffic and should NOT have been received by untrained and unprotected officials - it is this kind of criminal incompetence that one would think the sue-for-damages-mad Americans would go for. And - I am NOT an US American, I am watching this horror show from abroad. But this is all irrelevant, we all know that white-collar criminals are rarely brought to justice, even when the crime results in thousands, even tens of thousands lives lost.

@liltunechi4 , I live in one of the Nordic countries and I have a right to analyze or criticize the US all I want because the US has had it's dirty fingers in every pie imaginable, including my country, for over 70 years! I have a question: When you use the term "American" do you men ALL Americans (e.g. Canadian Americans, Mexican Americans or even Venezuelan Americans)? I know that US Americans are lousy at geography but, for your information, the "Americas" extend from N83° (Canada) to S56° (the southernmost tip of Chile), and anyone living on that vast continent can be rightfully called "an American". US Americans have no monopoly on that term.

@liltunechi4 , you are correct. We are so happy at home that we are bored to the point of having nothing better to do than obsessing about the US and it's foibles. We will no doubt stop doing that the moment the US stops meddling in the affairs of other nations - which is not likely to happen any time soon. The world is by now so globalized that we are living in each other's pocket, so you will just have to suffer the criticism.

His looks certainly support this rumor. He definitely looks a lot like his mother, but the rest of his facial features do nothing to dispel this myth. Then again, who cares? My bet is on Sinatra, for what it's worth. One wonders if he has any of his alleged father's musical talents? If so, he has certainly kept them private. As for talent, Ronan is in a league of his own as an intrepid journalist. Being fathered by Frank Sinatra or Woody Allen pales in comparison.

Zelenskiy speaks the simple truth: If Putin's Russia is not stopped now, actually crushed, this misery will be instigated again by Putin (or his successors) in 2, 5 or 10 years. The Russian Oligarchs (Kleptocrats, really) should be delegated to the dustbin of history, their ill-gotten gains used to repair the damage done to Ukraine and the Russian people. The same actually applies to 'Murican Billionaires, but that situation is not quite ripe enough yet.

Well, this is their community, and if every gun-tot'n individual is properly trained an licensed, there is not much to say about it. You can go there is you like it and stay away if you do not. A gun-free US just MIGHT happen in the distant future, but the likelihood is very slim. I'm just glad that I do not live in the US where, in many places, you HAVE to be armed to the teeth to at least FEEL safe. With all these guns around nobody is really safe, there WILL be accidents.

The 2020 election will be the most democratic election in recent US history, if only because US citizens are finally motivated to participate. Whatever the result, the population of the United States of America deserve whatever they voted for. The rest of the world is watching with morbid fascination, because the results will affect the entire globe. We are hoping for a rational US government in coming years, but the chances are slim...

Chipollone, former Trump Lawyer (trying to hide under the guise of having "only" been a White House counsel) is now frantically trying to avoid his fate. The adage: "Everything Trump touches, DIES" is proving to be true. As a comfort to Trump's accomplices, they do not literally die from "falling out of windows" like they do in Putin's Russia, they only die professionally, they lose their law licenses or become pariahs that no one is willing to hire for "generations to come" (meaning a couple of years in 'Murican terms).

One has to agree with this: Putin's Russia is a terrorist country, plain and simple. What is the reason the US and NATO are not reacting like they did after 9/11? Two problems: 1) Russia has appeared to be a more formidable country than e.g. Iraq, but the Ukrainians are proving that to be wrong. 2) Mounting an overwhelming response take more time than is available right now. The fact remains: Air assets can be quickly deployed to provide a no-fly zone over Ukraine. In light of the brutal and undeclared war Putin's Russia has unleashed on Ukraine, a widely recognized sovereign country, preventive military actions within Ukrainian borders are certainly justified! Putin can deceive and lie to Russians, but he cannot prevent the rest of the world from knowing everything that he is doing in Ukraine. Live, streamed video of his atrocities prevent that.

The only sure way this will stop this is for Putin to die. Seeing that Putin is relatively young, as autocrats go, that hope is moot. Putin will continue to try to divide NATO nations and while his tool Trump failed, Putin's plan is only delayed. He will keep trying. Another for this to end would be for Putin to overplay his hand and have the whole thing collapse around his ears. The Western nations have a decision to make: Allow Putin to continue to implement his decades-long plan or stop him in his tracks NOW! The current wishy-washy reaction is playing right into Pun's hands. What the West should do is to bankrupt the Russian Oligarchs a.s.a.p. and finish this once and for all.

The Ukrainian nation is turning out to be heroes, we Western NATO members are turning out to be the cowards - the best we appear to be doing is to sic our bureaucrats on Russia by imposing useless sanctions. An atrocity is being perpetrated before our very eyes, and we just sit tight and do nothing! History will judge us as we deserve, with Germany as the primary cowardly chickens (or rather the primary self-serving useless pieces of #$%&).

The Trump authorities are proceeding with their heads firmly stuck in the sand. By not properly measuring the number of infections, they are trying to spin away a very brutal reality. The current US statistic (march 6, 2020) is 330 infected, 14 dead, a fatality rate of well over 4%. At that rate, when the epidemic has run it's course, you will have over 20 million dead! But - reality check - South Korea did NOT stick it's head in the sand, they have tested extensively and probably have the most reliable numbers so far: A fatality rate of only 0.6% so far! That is probably a more realistic figure the rest of the world can expect, indicating that the final US fatality tally will only be a bit over 200 thousand dead. That does not take into account that the South Korean heath care system is no doubt far more comprehensive and effective than the broken US health care system.
