Anger will only make things worse and while many people will need the crutch of religion to make it through the day, any sensible person will realize that by the simple fact of being born in the first place, the end is the same for everyone - we cease to exist, we die (Walls Street has found that taxes are optional, but death is not!). Death is inevitable, and the best we can hope for is a quick and relatively painless passage to oblivion. What should matter to us in this life is how we influenced our world during our lifetime. Did we leave the world a better place for our descendants to live in?

This is frustrating to laypeople, but there is no doubt a good reason for it. Judicial systems that work like a greased lightning in some cases and not at all in others are extremely suspect. On reflection, I think I just described the 'Murican Judicial System to a Tee, just witness the pace at which poor black vs. rich white/political suspects are judged!

Any government in the NATO alliance that is stupid enough to follow Trump into a war with Iran will be kicked out in their next election. No surprise, the Icelandic contact tracing team had already told me to quarantine due to a contact with a known case, and his morning I was asked to have a test - free, of course. This is about public health, after all, not corporate profits. I am approaching 71 and I live with my 93-year old father, we are solidly in a high-risk group but we do NOT have to worry overmuch. Our health care system is up for the task and, most important, ANYTHING Covid-related is free, simply because it is A PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE! No one is allowed to exploit the situation, not for profit, not for political gain, not for ANY reason.

The rest of the world will probably owe Taylor Swift a lot of gratitude for bringing some sanity into 'Murican politics. "Of 3:30 hours of broadcasting, only 0:18 are actual football" - I noticed this about Baseball in Europe, the only 'Murican sport that is popular on our continent: The first 3 quarters go by rather quickly, the last quarter takes longer that the rest of the game - to make room for ads! When I realized this, I simply quit watching Basketball. By this example, I will never become a fan of 'Murican "football" (why don't you call it "Runball" or "Clutchaball" because all you do with the oblong thing you call "a ball" is to RUN around, CLUTCHING the oblong "ball". The only time a foot contacts the aforementioned oblong thing is when a special player (usually a soccer player) is called out to attempt to kick a field goal, an uncertain proposition, given the absurd shape of your "ball".

I have sometimes wondered why it is that every time any country gets something right (e.g. health care & education in the Nordic countries) it somehow does not apply to the US, because the US is TOO BIG and TOO DIVERSE for those lessons to apply! According to that, the US is either not small enough to succeed or it is so big that failure is inevitable! If that is the case, why not drop the "United" and "States" from the name and simply turn the current 50 States into 50 independent countries that are each small enough to succeed - or not big enough to fail. You could form a military alliance, NAMA (North America Military Alliance) along the lines of NATO, and that being accomplished, you could drop out of NATO and pretend to save A LOT of money (except you wouldn't).
