  1. The problem for modern viewers is the disconnect from the "unavoidable war" mentality. In the early nineteen-forties, everyone was immersed in the war and sort of accepted the immense cost in lives and resources. After all, the "Huns" were killing us and they needed a lot of killing back. The problem for the 2020 viewers is the they have not really experienced any real NEED for this systematic killing of each other. After all, what the EU is all about is to convince people that doing business with other nations is more useful than killing them. A "customer" or a "supplier" is vastly preferable to "an enemy, to be killed at any cost". I suggest that we "kill" (un-elect) any politician that is observed sowing hatred between nations. No blood-letting required, just make sure that the lunatics do not take over the asylum...

  2. An old-school dive into the decimal system, analog version. Do you 'Muricans realize that THIS is what the metric system is based on, what is left out are the suffixes - the K (kilo) for 1000 and C (centi) for 100, m (milli) for thousands etc? Just moving the decimal point around as required. Using the slide rule very quickly became intuitive. I lived through the transition from the slide rule to ever more sophisticated digital calculators in the late 1970s. One pro of the slide rule is that it never runs out of battery power, even if you leave it in a drawer for years! It is always ready for action.
