  11. Various countries have their own local/traditional names for other countries. So far, no one has minded - until juvenile tantrum-thrower Dictator Erdogan (a.k.a. Gollrur) needed a distraction from the disaster his policies are visiting on the country he rules with an iron fist: The most important issue of all issues is the fact that the modern name for Türkiye in English is Turkey - which happens to be the English name for the large chicken species Meleagris that e.g. Nordic nations call "Kalkun". To my knowledge, the people of Turkey/Türkiye/Tyrkland or whatever people call this particular nation do not really care - the only Turk that seems the have his knickers in a twist is Dictator Erdogan - but, then again, he is in dire need of something, ANYTHING that will distract his countrymen from the fact that his economic and religious policies are ruining Turkey/Türkiye/Tyrkland. Erdogan is becoming openly ridiculous! In my country (Iceland), Turkey/Türkiye has always been called "Tyrkland", and the old Norse name for Istanbul has always been "Mikligarður" (lit. Great Garden). Is juvenile Erdogan about to throw a tantrum over local naming conventions for his ancient country, one of the cradles of civilization? Methinks you Turks (NOT Turkeys!) need to start thinking about electing a more rational leader... The funny thing: Turkey (Türkiye) as a nation has been doing fine - it is mostly on the ridiculous Erdogan political and economic front that the country has been floundering.
