  1. This is not a story widely touted by western historians. Given the comments I have seen, the Allies have certainly not been open or outspoken about their failures, especially one so apparently abject. One wonders if this example of lousy planning was hushed up or used as an example for planning pitfalls.

Before watching this, I always assumed that these areas/ethnicities/cultures/countries had been separate long before being forced together by e.g. the Soviets or even earlier, and that on the collapse of the of the Soviet Union the separation into Czechia and Slovakia seemed so effortless that it must have been mutual and mostly peaceful. I am less ignorant after watching this (mindful it might not be the whole truth or nothing but the truth), and also happy that I was not totally off regarding a mutual and peaceful / non-violent separation, not to mention a contented coexistence after the separation. Just consider the non-peaceful and violent breakup of the former Yugoslavia!
