The main reason the trans issue is a debate in the US, is because the federal government gets involved in school sports in the US. And sets the rules. It's part of the Civil Rights act, under title nine. It was initially set up to protect women. So that's why it's a political debate in the US, where as it might not be in other countries.
My opinion is, I don't think trans women should be in female school sports. And I don't think that trans women should be in girls school bathrooms or school locker rooms. I feel that after the kids get older, and if it's a private gym, or other retail establishment, then that can be up to each establishment. In other words, it can be a choice for adults if people want it that way. But I don't think it should be forced for girls in public schools or colleges. Once they get older and on their own, then they can join gyms and private sports clubs, that serve what they want, and what the customers agree to.
