No point mentioning mental health when we live in a country in a mental health crisis, a government cutting funding and increasing general living stress, a media that kettle public opinion, and an uncertain future. WE ALL HAVE MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES AT SOME POINT OR OTHER. ALL OF US. BE SPECIFIC, OR DON’T MENTION IT.

In this situation a deeper explanation is necessary, “mental health” is too broad a term. “Psychiatric” is the involvement of drugs and clarifies it’s not just a “mental health issue”, saying that in the reporting would be far more effective, I reckon. …and less stigmatising to sufferers of less criminally tended mental health issues. I mean, the last thing I think of ANYONE that commits violent crimes against other living creatures is: “I wonder if he’s perfectly sane and level headed”. I think it’s pretty clear he’s not just a bit down, I just want to know “how” mental he is, which specific branch of mental health is under consideration, etc. That’s all.
