  39. Wicked people aren't born, but made. People make decisions, and while a person's background is a contributing factor, each person has free will to make changes. I wonder what type of person Richard would have become if he learned God's name and tried to do his will. God is very forgiving. He even forgave wicked King Manasseh. (2 Kings 21:1-16; abbreviated for brevity) Manasseh was 12 years old when he became king, and he reigned for 55 years in Jerusalem. He did what was wrong in Jehovah's eyes, following the detestable practices of the nations that Jehovah had driven out from before the people of Israel. He rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had destroyed, and he set up altars to Baal and made a sacred pole, just as Ahab the king of Israel had done. And he bowed down to all the stars and sun and served them. (a few of his evil deeds) And he made his son pass through the fire; he practiced magic, looked for omens, and appointed spirit mediums and fortune-tellers. He did on a grand scale what was wrong in Jehovah's eyes, to offend him. ... Manasseh kept leading them astray, causing them to do greater evil than the nations that Jehovah had eradicated before the Israelites. Jehovah kept speaking through his servants the prophets, saying: "Manasseh, the king of Judah has done all these detestable things. ...'" Manasseh also shed innocent blood in very great quantity until he had filled Jerusalem from one end to the other, besides his sin of causing Judah to sin by doing what was evil in the eyes of Jehovah. (2 Chronicles 33:10-13) Jehovah kept speaking to Manasseh and his people, but they paid no attention. So Jehovah brought against them the army chiefs of Assyria's king, and they captured Manasseh with hooks and bound him with two copper fetters and took him to Babylon. In his distress, he begged Jehovah his God for favor and kept humbling himself much before his forefathers' God. He kept praying to Him. Moved by his plea, God heard his request for a blessing. He restored him to Jerusalem to his kingship. Then Manasseh came to know that Jehovah is the true God. What a fantastic story of a man who did unspeakable things, and yet wholly turned his life to doing good. For the rest of his life, Manasseh tried to make amends to Jehovah God, and to the people, his rulership led into a ruined relationship with God. From a young age, Manasseh taught his grandson Josiah to always honor Jehovah and not to repeat the bad things he did. Josiah turned out to be a wonderful king. I think had Richard learn about Jehovah God. He would have become a different person from the inside out. Instead of his crimes, Richard would have likely dedicated his life to helping people learn about Jehovah God and telling them about God's kingdom's good news. He would have had a genuine love for himself and others.
