  2. All of these have the problem of gravity pressing down, resulting in the debris creating a cover. Instead, couldn't the engineers rotate the grates at a 45-degree incline and move them out to about 1 to 2 feet from the drain? Instead of having a single small area, the grates cover a larger area, large enough for water to meander and find its way to the drain. I created a quick mockup: https://i.imgur.com/YXe5PE7.jpeg
