2:22 Pfizer offers 88% protection against Delta, Oxford-AstraZeneca 67% protection against Delta. J+J and Moderna sub-100% protection (I don't know the specific percentage). The point is that no vaccine in humanity's history has ever provided 100% protection, meaning there will ALWAYS be breakthrough infections. It is expected and not a problem. The real question to ask is, are those breakthrough cases going to the hospital or worse? (I want to know the answer to that question.) If the answer is no, then breakthrough infections are NOT A PROBLEM. So stop making it a problem, news. You're not helping the situation. You're making it worse.
I want to unpack the percentage even further by knowing what rate of that 12% fully vaccinated with Pfizer ends up in the hospital, and of that percentage, who dies? So, for example, if out of the 12%, say 1% end up in a hospital and of that 1%, 0.5% die. That means collectively, Pfizer offers 99% protection against hospitalizations and 99.5% protection against death. THAT'S the percentage the news should report about the vaccine's effectiveness.
2:45 Thank you, doctor! Her question was stupid.
