  10. More things to compare: Acting / Performances - Star Trek Episodes like "The Inner Light" (TNG), "In the Pale Moonlight" (DS9), "Far Beyond the Stars (DS9; an episode that should have won Avery Brooks an Emmy for his performance and direction), "Duet" (DS9; amazingly performances by Nana Visitor and Harris Yulin) are noteworthy examples of amazing performances. A total of 33 awards, 19 of which are Emmys, have been given for acting and performance. Star Wars has won many awards for technical merits but Star Trek has won on performance and acting merits. Series Direction - Star Wars Direction is defined as "the management or guidance of someone or something." Direction is how we see growth in any series in books, film, television and comic books. So how has Star Trek and Star Wars measured up? Prior to 2009 the films and television shows still continued to explore the human condition. It was a platform to talk about issues that people were thinking about but too embarrassed or nervous to discuss. In all of that we got to see Shakespeare performed by Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner, Cyrano de Bergerac performed by Dwight Schultz as Barclay, Hamlet spoken in Klingon by Christopher Plummer and more. We even got to explore the darker side of Star Trek via Section 31. All of that is part of the original timeline. That timeline doesn't exist in the 2009 reboot. The direction of the films is moving away from Gene Roddenberry's vision of a positive future where humans and aliens, for the most part, get along and social issues are discussed. The series is now about pew pew laser beams and fist fights. George Lucas wrote and directed FOUR Star Wars films. However for a long time the series was cursed by the prequels; something George was entirely responsible for. For many the prequels represent the metaphoric derailment in direction. It wasn't until Disney's purchase and placing the series back on track with The Force Awaken and the upcoming anthology films that Star Wars is now moving in the right direction. The winner is definitely Star Wars! :)
