Thank you for this. My Spooonman story: Early '90's I was visiting Santa Cruz with friends. We came across Spoonman on the street playing and 'preaching" and reading his poetry. I let my friends and GF go off and "sightsee", but I was mesmerized.....I walked back to my car and got my guitar, and came back and mostly listened, but sometimes played along to Spoonman for about 2 hours........It was intense: When he was packing up, I heard him tell a guy that the band Soundgarden had just had him in the studio to play on a song. About a month later, I heard "Spoonman" on the radio, !!! I tripped.....

I worked in construction in the '80s. Then, an average guy without college, out of high school in a few years could be making double triple minimum wage and enough to start buying a house even. And after 4 or 5 years you were making wages that you could support a family on. In the early '90s, no offense to all my Hispanic friends, a flood of immigrants came up from the south and basically took most of the construction jobs except for the high paying ones. That whole sector of jobs for young men that weren't college-bound disappeared.

Marc Martineau Buy new strings.

I walked into a Tower records when October came out. I was transfixed and it didn't leave my turntable for 4 months. Been a big U2 fan ever since. Well, until the 90s. But they were the real deal. Saw them in the 80s in front of 150,000 at the US festival and then in front of 80,000 people.

If true, he kind of deserved it. That's fairly unaware.

She's sold 165 million albums and I've never heard of her? I really doubt she sold that many records. Does that make any sense? I checked, depending on the article she has sold somewhere between 15 and 50 million units. Whatever that means.

This was so beautiful. I'm going to listen to more. I'm a 63 yr. old professional musician and teacher but my classical days were my childhood. I've got some catching up to do.
15
This really resonates. King's X a long-time favourite and severely underrated band, has released albums continually but I stopped listening to them in the late 90s. I recently gone back and listen to their albums since then and they are as good or better than ever and I'm having a good time re freshing myself with their amazing music.

BlipBlap Aaaaanndddd I just read your comment, then 2 seconds later it's Rick: "And then we have the e-ohs". lol

Jazz Melodies sound like a crazy person thinking.
12
I think a random note generator could make jazz music.

When AI started, I thought it was nice to see live singers on TV again. It mattered at the time.
9
It's okay, drummers can appreciate musicians.
7
The way the melody climbs, reminds me of Adagio for Strings.

@gentbar7296 No. I've eaten snail, fish eggs, dirt, a milkshake consisting of approx. 23 different dinner food items at a buffet, {includ. gravy and jello}, boogers, tho, but nothing with spines.
6
When AI came on at first, I was happy to see live singing, and a focus on music, back on TV. It mattered then. First seasons were great.

I clicked on this so fast I broke my unborn child's index finger.

I see Neil Peart, I twitch click like an epileptic.

Interesting. I'm a lifelong musician. I play professionally. It's only since I found this channel recently, and Adam Neely's, that I've been aware that people actually cared about and studied theory this way. I've got a lot of catching up to do. lol

Great posture=great drummer.

Pitch memory. If I'm quiet I can hear the key or note e, if I think about sound of silence.

Rob Flynn Room 222. You are so showing your age.

I started piano lessons at age 7 in 1967 and then a few years of guitar piano lessons in the high school bands and performing and recording ever since. Now I teach piano and playing several bands. And this is one of the best hours of my musical life. Thank you so much Rick bless your face.

People who haven't been much on YouTube still think that the comment sections are toxic. Not here.

Gracie Abrams, The way she and other females and some males, pronounce vowels, makes my musical brain hurt.😢
4
Thanks Rick. I just finished my album of original rock. NO: quantizing, Auto-tune, no click track. Tracks laid down live and raw, all guitar parts doubled. Sounds amazing!
4
Start with Radiohead.
4
When we got to that on the list I thought it was 50% better than anyting before. And when that album came out in the seventies, studios all around the world used it as a reference LP for a couple few years.
4
@pano360 how very cool. He was traveling all around in an old beat up Volvo I think.
3
@RV Last year was the biggest year for selling guitars in history. Lots of new guitar players out there now.
3
I was thinking he looks like a snarky eyeliner guy, and then he said that. Lol😂😂
3
To be fair, if he was buying a Squier and little cheap amp, there was probably no money in the sale. The only money for the store was in the guitar cable.
3
@jsullivan2112 no, I spent my time listening to new good music. Not this crap.
3
Music and then musicians became worthless with streaming in the early 2000s. When music was free it's not worth anything.
3
Good call. @Samasiam
3
Both wearing Chuck's that's hilarious😂
3
He had me at " My arsenal of desires"😂❤
3
Greatest singer in the world.
3
Lenny Breau was my friend. I remember when he came back to California after having had given some guitar lessons to Andy.
3
Yes. Tele's are soooooooo hip, though. When I was coming up in the '70's, No One played Teles in rock. They were looked down on. Now? Ooooooooh!!!! lololol
3
Influential= Jimi Hendrix, then Eddie Van Halen then the Edge.
3
I've treasured a second set of ears to give me feedback with my music.
2
I need to start sending you money. The quality of education and entertainment I get here is ridiculous. Thank you so much.
2
Rick is a genius and a godsend to the musical world.
2
@kkjj4508 better grab a dictionary
2
@rv6205 your figure of 99% is pulled straight out of the air. Facts please I bet 50% of the people keep playing. And two, new guitar centric music? Ghost.
2
@hon8177 I agree 100% this is awful , it’s destroying our country
2
@AbleBodied I am glad you turned out OK , But as I am okd dad and an old rock and roller, I would consider it nearly neglect to drop off an 11-year-old at akiss concert or any rock concert in the 70s! What was your mom’s thinking?L O L.
