  1. I worked in construction in the '80s. Then, an average guy without college, out of high school in a few years could be making double triple minimum wage and enough to start buying a house even. And after 4 or 5 years you were making wages that you could support a family on. In the early '90s, no offense to all my Hispanic friends, a flood of immigrants came up from the south and basically took most of the construction jobs except for the high paying ones. That whole sector of jobs for young men that weren't college-bound disappeared.
