To be fair, if he was buying a Squier and little cheap amp, there was probably no money in the sale. The only money for the store was in the guitar cable.

@BD-me4nk What are you talking about? This post isn't about a Guitar Center. The salesman in the story was referring the the kid to a GC, if he needed a new cord.

@MrJdsenior Many times the store does not get to set the price. They are set by Fender or whoever to sell at a certain price. Loss leaders. In retail ,certain high demand items are priced to sell at or below the cost, to magnify brand name, or to push a particular item. By "fair", I just meant "reality", I think. I know from my experience that especially with new musical items, the profit for the store is in the accessories.
