  1. During the Merkel years the SPD burnt through three different chancellor candidates (not that they were necessarily better). Scholz was just the SPD leftovers that got elected because the campaigns of Baerbock and Armin Laschet (Merkel's party) crashed and burnt before election day, while he stayed in the background and watched. Scholz isn't chancellor due to his own merits, he was the last one standing in an election without good options.
