I find that whataboutism is often invoked by people determined to not face their own hypocrisy, as a side-comment towards the last bit. Not in this case, though, I think it was a fair and balanced video. Anyway, of course the USSR was an empire, that shouldn't even be up for debate. Signed, a citizen of a nation under the thumb of the US.😉

@TexasNationalist1836 See, this is what I meant. In yankee land there are people pretending that the word "democracy" stands for "direct democracy" and is therefore unrelated to "representative democracy", which republics are. This is how stupid takes like yours come to be.

@TexasNationalist1836 Yes, yes, I know this droll and bizzare talking point from America. It's an utterly worthless take, invented for domestic consumption as it allows you to try and gotcha people based on their word choices (while of course being actually uninformed about the actual meaning of the words "democracy" and "republic". As for my "bitching", we haven't even been talking about the America's existence as empire for what feels like hours by now, ever since you tried to pretend that somehow democratic structures within the empire somehow negates that status.
