  1. I would definitely like to hear the actions of Macron explained. This should be good. Not being in lock-step with the US is perfectly understandable. Except the timing couldn't be worse. I see Macron as approaching these dictators with hat in hand & saying what they want to hear. It would be much more beneficial to keep the wolves from Taiwan's door to NOT say some of things he did say. Standing by idly in a situation very similar to the one in Ukraine is just a weak 'as long as it isn't in my back yard' response.

  13. Sounds like the 'preppers' of Europe. Lots of people laugh at the preppers in the US. Imagine their surprise of some if what they prepare for turns out to be true. I think the 'preppers' here go too far but much of what they advocate is just common sense as well. It will serve you well in a disaster situation. So even though the Finns seem to be obsessed, considering the neighborhood, maybe they are just right & the rest of us are fools.

  17. If given all the weapons in the world you would still have russian strategist. There are many crippling aspect to the russian war machine. Logistics created by third graders. A fighting force confused by what they are fighting for. Probably the worst handicap for russia is their military planners. Without them you have a pile of corpses 200k high in Ukraine or 500k high with general mobilization. It would make little difference to the outcome.

  25. The old soviet designed weapons were mostly serviceable. Good enough to stop rioters in Hungary & elsewhere. Some of it was pretty good on the battlefield (i.e. how well Ukraine uses mostly soviet equipment today). The real 'spanner in the works' for russia is their seeming unfamiliarity with how to use their equipment on the battlefield. Also any new system russia seems to come up with is either a waste of time or again monumental bad use in time of war.

'Mini-Me' the Tsar & his oil fields have become irrelevant in the oil market. And the countries that still do take oil from Blyatistan, are finding out how unreliable they are at delivering it. Fuel at the pump keeps going down & oil wells keep being put out of service due to a lack of demand.

  40. I think he said Brent is an American standard (sorry, I'm not going back to relisten) not US. Although for trading Brent is a US standard at least for trading. There are many other countries besides the US in America. WTI, Brent, Ural, and many others are just benchmarks for grades of fuel. Not all oil in US is comes from West Texas either. Almost every field has it's standard so I doubt Canada for example, uses Brent as a benchmark but they might. With so much of a mash up of different grades & benchmarks, I'm willing to cut TLDR some slack if they say one little thing wrong.

If you are talking about crossing the Dnipro River few countries could use only temporary bridges & it would be a huge effort for them. At certain flow levels no one is crossing a river that is 1 km wide. However, damage a bridge in a certain way to deny it to your enemy & that same bridging equipment can make it usable again in about an hour.

  45. I think Poland might become a power not only in Europe but of the world. They certainly seem to have more sober thinking from the government & much less diplomatic wrangling. Which does not mean they are perfect in all they try to do. I see countries like Poland, Indonesia, and others taking over the titles of 'super power' if their geography, resources, national will, move them in that direction.

  69. Imagining Ukraine taking Crimea is more a case of imagining russia's ability to hold it. I think the AFU is a great fighting force but it is a pretty tall order. The russian general in charge of the defense of Crimea seems competent unlike others we have seen. And there would seem to be too many choke points. However there are many inlets & islands north of Crimea to bypass those choke points. My money would be on Ukraine but it might not be so easy as other places.

  76. There seems to be one obvious fact that isn't so obvious & wasn't to me either until you think about it. Why would the Orcs want 150 km more of a front with Ukraine. They are already stretched to thin as it is. But that doesn't mean they didn't blow the dam. Draining the reservoir will give them of a new battle front. They just blew a small portion of the dam hoping it would stay small. But of course flooding washes away dams. So instead of flooding the islands downstream (smart) they actually sent a torrent downstream doing more damage to themselves (typically dumb they do). Now they will have a river & not a wide body of water to hold back the enemy. In about a month of hot weather this will become a nightmare battlefield for them. One that only stupid little putin could have created along with his moron military. Or . . . They don't plan to have the territory soon so whether it is a river or reservoir doesn't really matter.

  87. In a normal war, I might agree with this video. But from the Ukrainian point of view to leave it's people under Russian control would be unthinkable. To cede land to Russia would only encourage them to invade again in 8 years just like they did 8 years in the past. I also think it is assumed there would be a stalwart defense of contested land by Russia for months. I would say it is just as likely it will crumble in a matter of weeks. To be fair, the Ukrainians may decide after months that they are too war-weary to continue. Even the best military will get to be that way. But the first three reasons I listed I think will give them much greater resolve than in a 'normal war'.

So . . . If the fortunes of war change (I can hear the Russian trolls squealing like little girls now) and Ukraine rolls up to the Russian border. Should they now consider taking a buffer zone of Russian territory for themselves based on the range of Russian weapons? Someone explain to me how that concept is any different. Except in the fact that it might actually be warranted & 'doable'. If you don't speak Russian, at one point, Lavrov stuttered a bit & said basically he couldn't explain 'logically' why Ukraine was defending itself. A common theme of the whole war that Russians don't understand why they aren't welcomed & let them do whatever they want to do. I think some of them really are perplexed. Plus it was one of the few times truth has crossed Lavrov's lips. LOL!!!

Many countries including the US bought into it. They will still go with it but not with violence. The China of the 80's is not the manically violent China of today. One China never should have been accepted but they saw promise in an emerging China back then. If Taiwan seek independence (which they haven't yet) or violence is used, One China will be dropped like the rotten vestige it probably is with modern China.

He already is a monster in the eyes of the rest of the world. So naturally almost all sanctions would stay in place even if he were to withdraw completely from Ukraine. You are right it would do more damage to the Orcs. But stupid little putin isn't a hydrologist & realized the rest of the dam would be swept away afterward.   103. I think as long as Orbán can keep his corruption going, there isn't much he has to worry about. Having some funding withheld would be a pain but nothing he couldn't over come one way or another. His little fat buddy putin (or whatever monster-to-be replaces him) will be less willing to help as time goes on. I doubt if the EU has much of a roadmap to solve this problem.

  109. When Ukraine broke up along with the rest of the Soviet Bloc corruption was widespread. By the time they applied for NATO in 2008 they had improved because that level would never be tolerated. But on the 2 times I know about Ukraine was rejected both times. They had learned the corruption game from the best in Russia & old habits are hard to break. A vetting procedure for entry to the EU will only help them for the better. But it does take time. It will take time to shake off the corruption of Russia.

I don't think they will but we have seen them push the russians back from Bakhmut before. The Bakhmut area is just a tiny spot on the Ukraine map. Splitting families up, parents going to russian & minor children staying. The sale of their property. They will want to do it in a legalistic way. Later russia may just start shooting those they are given. Ukraine may want to do deprogramming to turn the fanboys away from russia. Yadda Yadda. There will be some hardliners refusing to change & they should get their wish. But there is a lot involved with it.

If you don't take Bakhmut, or get surrounded, you lose even more & a hollow victory in FINALLY taking something you intended to take. I sort of understand russias interests since they haven't advanced anywhere else. Ukraine's only interests is in using it as a killing ground.   125. I got part of Kherson offensive right. But totally missed some of the strategy. I think Russia did sense a trap at first, but someone (Putin?) decided to go all in. They missed almost all of this and Ukraine 'played them like a drum'. I'm just some what of a long time scholar of history so not surprising I was wrong. Shocking that the professionals on the Russian side picked up no hint of any danger. These are some of Russia's best (remaining) troops with their best equipment!!

  126. It occurs to me you will be issued a weapon (such as it is) by the government. They probably don't issue rounds until you are at the front. I'm sure Russia has already considered all this. Command is usually well back maybe more afraid of it's own troops than Ukraine? But the 'random shooter' may replace the 'careless smoker' in news in the future. Also many people believe guns are banned. There is very much a gun subculture in Russia.

If the west doesn't trust Ukraine with it's super secret toys, then bring in crews from the west. Maybe russian weapons shot down before they even get to Ukraine will give pause to think on the russian side. The reason they may not do this is they want the Ukrainian victory to be totally theirs with no western involvement at all. Which is a compelling reason. Of course russia already says they are fighting NATO, but there is no reason to give this argument legitimacy.

They have a large border guard to post along a very long border with not to friendly neighbors. Since their naval fleets are idol due to cost, they could send in 20% of those maybe? Guarding against enemy threats all around them (most imagined only) keep the rest in place. I'm sure you are a troll & will tear this apart, but I thought I would put the truth out there for every one that was interested.

As close to the Donetsk border as possible to see if the Orc troops collapse. Take the coast & if there is any opening into Donetsk have another force move in there. You would cut off more of their troops & you might get an excellent opportunity to go eastward. Taking anything putin had pre 2022 would be a huge blow.

  136. LOL!! Values of currency pairs (one vs another) are of little concern. The people sometimes want a strong currency for little more than pride. But a strong currency is many time bad for business. You want it to stay within a range & I think the Euro is still where it needs to be. Seeking save havens with USD would be advisable (maybe) for investors. But for the average person it is of no concern. That doesn't mean sinking value in the Euro isn't something that shouldn't be watched of course.

  142. The situation is very fluid. Last week there were a lot of propagandist talking retreat MAYBE for Ukraine's consumption. Trying to lure them lure them in to an urban kill zone. Much is unknown. It has probably devolved into a true retreat now. But Ukraine will have to be careful entering the city.
