I would like to feel sorry for the Russians being repressed now. I have some friends there from my travels & made some from YouTube in fact. But my hard, callus, question is: Where were the protesting masses over the war in N Ossetia? Back in the 90's when they could freely speak out & Putin hadn't consolidated power. Later the first & second Chechen wars and the first invasion of Ukraine, where were the throngs of people taking to the streets? Even as late as July 2020 when Putin had articles changed in the constitution to make himself President for Life there must have been great outcry. There was the typical Russian ambivalence 'I'm not interested in Politics' or even worse 'The actions of my government are no concern of mine'. This is why any petty tyrant can rule them. They just keep taking bite sized pieces of power over a long time. Besides it being a case of good people just standing by as evil takes over. It is a case of They made their bed, now lay in it.
