  1. Some are in very dire financial situations. They are promised fabulous sums (russian stantards maybe $1600 a month) to go guard a border crossing & they won't even cross over into Ukraine. Micro loans which is more like loan sharking than payday loans. Interior of russia is desperately poor. Behind on mortgages. There are lots of reasons. And they hear it is almost like a vacation to go to Ukraine . . . No killing.

  2.  @Einnstadten  That is the catch, isn't it? Forced to be in the front line trenches with the second line of regular troops behind you ready to shoot you if you try to run. Easy money . . .
