This happens in civilian life too. There are many examples of this happening. There is about to be a new law forcing a new tax on business owners. Presented a little like a war bond in the US in WW2. No pretense will be made to pay this back. This obvious ploy to avoid paying families take many forms in russian including saying they were never there. It would seem they are dumb but they know. But they keep going along with it.

Many people confuse anti-russodespotism with russophobia. Many on the front now, went enticed by the money. The others if conscripted, if they were to go back home, they would gladly sit & watch RTV cheering for the home team to wipe Ukrainians out. A much higher percentage now want nothing to do with the war. The vast majority of those only want to save their own hides.
