And of course, no one is surprised by any of this. It has been apparent in recent years that putin was going back to the soviet model. Along the line of the Young Pioneers & beyond. To form in the youth the material he needs to attain his dream. Unfortunately he may have just dammed up the stream to create generations of 'stagnant water'.

Not all can go by any means. You suppose the students as middle class Westerners. Go outside the large cities & it gets desperately poor really fast. They can no more leave the country than you plan a trip to the moon. Many provincials are the most patriotic also. And wouldn't consider leaving. It varies somewhat but this is generally true.

@alanmcmillan6969 It is a form of 'conditioning' for hundreds of years. Any free thinkers were purged or put into gulags long ago. So the innovative thinkers bloodlines disappeared long ago. It is horrifying & with the right sort of conditions after the war, it will get better. But I wouldn't expect much until their eyes are opened.
