  1. I have seen russian poverty in the 90's & it was shocking back then. The current situation is better than that (PPP) but it is rapidly headed to that again . . . And beyond. The village idiot of the kremlin is running his country into the ground. It should be interesting over the next few years on how bad it gets. The last time I did exchange, the ruble was @800 to the $. Before that it was @1200 to the $. Current exchange is officially @85 to the $. But no one does official I don't think. Black market is 120 to the $. Most telling is the number of micro loans in russia. It is a little like a pawn shop & pay day loan here. But a touch of loan sharking thrown in.
