  1. Being a retired hydrodynamic engineer (mostly on the aero side of things) I can tell you they struggled with what 'ship' is & what 'boat' is for centuries. The best overall definition I have ever heard was a boat leans to the inside of a turn & a ship leans to the outside of a turn. Many say this is 'list' but this assumes taking on water. The 'roll' of the ship would be better. Actually lean & list are fine too. Even old salts get sea sick in the right conditions.

  4. All the US supercarriers are nuclear powered. Probably a 6 month+ deployment. Even the ports that can handle them sometimes don't want nuclear powered ships there. Most resupply is done at sea & under way.

  5. I'm a frustrated naval architect. The Southern Seas are so rough because there is no land break anywhere around the world to moderate the winds. So it can go completely around the world with nothing to stop it. This is a massive 'fetch'. Like 'Cape Town Rollers' just off of South Africa. Ships ideally are build for this but it can't be done all the time. Many ships have had their backs broken in the Southern Seas. What is a hurricane in other places is just another Tuesday there.

  6. I know I'm late to comments. But you ask 'when does an easier to fly jet get to the point of being a drone'. The F-35 has one defining feature . . . In it's network capability. I'm not aware of the secret numbers, but if the plane has 32 command channels for example. The one plane could be a strike group of that one plane + 32 drones. And strike drones are now in service or about to be. There would probably be a flight of 2 F-35's with a swarm of drones under one of the plane's command. While the other flies top cap or jamming or whatever the mission calls for. Many other planes are faster, more heavily armed, etc, etc. But look for some amazing things you may hear about on the news in coming years about what the F-35 does with it's network.

  7. We have seen weakness in the russian military for quite some time. Even pre-putin they took a pretty big spanking from Chechnya in the '94--96 war. It was a country surrounded on 3 sides with a population then of about 3 million. And Chechnya had no help from the West. They only took Chechnya later by getting Kadyrov (the elder not the one we have now) to turn traitor. I was in moscow in '99 and the official chatter was Chechnyans were all sub human animals. A lot like they talked about Ukraine at the beginning of this war.
