  1. We have seen weakness in the russian military for quite some time. Even pre-putin they took a pretty big spanking from Chechnya in the '94--96 war. It was a country surrounded on 3 sides with a population then of about 3 million. And Chechnya had no help from the West. They only took Chechnya later by getting Kadyrov (the elder not the one we have now) to turn traitor. I was in moscow in '99 and the official chatter was Chechnyans were all sub human animals. A lot like they talked about Ukraine at the beginning of this war.
